Mat Depot Donates Mat for Fallen Soldiers

On March 31, the Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball team dedicated an unoccupied seat to all of the American soldiers who have not returned home from war. Here at Mat Depot, we are so happy to have been a part of this event by donating the mat on which the chair sits.

Rubber vs. Vinyl

Rubber and Vinyl are two of the primary materials used to make floor mats. But which one is better? You can’t go wrong either way; it really just depends on what you’re looking for!

Rubber is considered to be the superior matting material, but it does come at a slightly higher cost. A mat made out of 100% nitrile rubber can handle heavy traffic, extreme temperatures, and intense cleaning. This makes it ideal for outside areas or areas with heavy foot traffic. The cleaning process for rubber mats is also extremely convenient. They can be cleaned with a hose or vacuum but the material is also strong enough to be laundered. Rubber mats will always lay flat and can be manufactured with a smooth back or with cleats to hold the mat in place on a carpeted surface. Finally, rubber is resistant to stains, mildew, and fading.

Vinyl, on the other hand, provides a more affordable option without sacrificing a great deal of quality. Because vinyl is not quite as durable as rubber, it cannot be laundered or handle extreme temperatures. If abused for a long period of time, vinyl can possibly crack or curl. However, vinyl is more resistant to chemical absorption than rubber is. It can only be manufactured with a smooth back, so a vinyl mat should only be used on hard floors. A perk to vinyl is that it can be manufactured in a wider variety of color options than rubber can. Vinyl mats are ideal for areas with light to medium foot traffic.

The key to deciding between rubber and vinyl is determining which material best suits your needs. Mat Depot offers many mats in both materials, so make sure to check all of them out on our website or pinterest!Rubber vs Vinyl

Avoiding Slips and Falls at the Workplace

slips picWhile some of us may be clumsier than others, we have all had taken a stumble once or twice (or several times) while at the workplace. For employers, these types of incidents can be particularly risky.

Falls, trips, and slips make up the majority of general industry accidents, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. It has also been found that these occurrences:

  • Are the main cause of accidents that lead to 4 or more days of work missed
  • Cause 15% of accidental deaths per year, making them the second-leading cause of accidental deaths behind motor vehicle accidents.
  • Cause 25% of reported injury claims per fiscal year
  • Are the reason behind 65% of all work days lost

There are many factors that can lead to someone falling, tripping, or slipping in your workplace. Some of these include:

  • Floors that are wet from water, grease, or something else that would cause it to be slippery
  • Damaged or uneven floors
  • Exposed cables or cords
  • Wet or muddy shoes
  • Slanted surfaces or ramps that don’t have a skid-proof surface

One way to easily solve all of these problems is by installing a proper matting system. The first step to is to select an outside entrance mat to keep materials like dirt, mud, and show from making their way into the building. Our Econo II, Aqua Tread, and Scraper mats are perfect for this job.

The next step is to place a mat at the indoor entrance to further trap materials, providing everyone who enters the building a chance to rid their shoes of anything that could cause them to slip as well as water and mud that would cause the floors to be dirty and dangerous. For these purposes, try one of our Endura or Econo I mats.

Another option is to install an architectural entrance system. These include our Pro-tracks, Stainless Steel Pro-Grille, Endura-Track, and Cocoa Matting.

Finally, remember that mats aren’t just for the entrance! Consider putting mats throughout the building in other high-risk areas. Check out our runners, anti-static mats, and anti-fatigue mats and consider how these items can further prevent accidents from ocurring at your workplace.

Protect yourself and your employees by preventing falls, slips, and trips. Check out all of our products on our website or pinterest:

Why you should use a chair mat

Investing in a chair mat is a simple way to protect your flooring from wear and tear while also providing many other benefits. Using a chair mat can extend the life of your floor by spreading the pressure caused by the weight and movement of a chair. It also protects the floor from scuffs, spills, indentations, and any other marks. In fact, most flooring manufacturers will void their warranty if a chair is used without a mat. It is also important to keep in mind how unsightly a worn out carpet looks – especially in a bare room.

The use of a chair mat also makes it significantly easier to move around your workplace. Easier rolling reduces the strain placed on your back and legs, reducing fatigue.

Mat depot offers a wide selection of chair mats that will suit any type of flooring. Our soft floor chair mats have molded cleats/studs that are easy on carpet and hold the mat securely in place. Our hard floor mats will protect any hard surface from damaging casters. If you are looking to customize your workplace, our designer chair mats are the perfect way to add some visual appeal to an otherwise dull office space.

Whatever your needs may be, Mat Depot has a chair mat that will satisfy them all. Check out our selections here:

RVA Mats

RVAThree letters were turned into a phenomenon in 2011 when the infamous RVA stickers were created by Venture Richmond. Today, you can find those stickers on everything from laptops and bikes to cars and signs.
Mat Depot, a floor mat manufacturer on Main St., has turned the RVA sticker into a 24” x 35” floor mat for you to express your city pride from the first footstep through your door. Made of a durable nylon pile and a heavy-duty rubber backing, this mat is machine washable and long lasting. We have partnered with Quickness RVA to deliver all RVA mats purchased within the Richmond City area at no cost.
Aside from showing your RVA pride, 100% of the profits through Mat Depot will also be donated to Peas Rock, a non-profit organization in Richmond that provides microloans and education to Richmond entrepreneurs that have exhausted other, more traditional forms of help. This gives them the opportunity to achieve their goals, which in turn, benefits the whole community. After the loan is paid back, the money is given to another entrepreneur of Richmond.
These mats can be found for $59.95 on http://www.matdepot.com under the Private Label/Charitable mat section and soon to be RVAcreates.com as well as peasrock.com.

Winterize Your Car

Screen Shot 2013-01-15 at 1.03.35 PMThe effects of cold winters are damaging to your car floor. Snow gets tracked inside, melting and turning it into water making your floor carpet wet, soggy and smelly. Salt used to melt ice is very damaging and because it is made of chemicals, it can erode through your car’s original carpet floor. Replacing your car’s carpet is time-consuming and can costs hundreds of dollars. While purchasing a deep cleaner starts at $100, doing the job yourself is also time-consuming. The best things you can do is stop the damage before it happens by investing in good all-weather car mats.

Heavy duty car mats such as RubberTite custom-fit weather mats are a solution to your winter car floor problems. Because the mats are made of rubber material, they are almost indestructible, so it’s nearly impossible to puncture and ice-melting salt will not affect it. They’re available for cars, trucks, vans, SUV’s and even trunk and cargo areas. Unlike most rubber car floor mats, the RubberTite mats will stay flexible even in sub-freezing temperatures and they won’t expand or contract with the weather.

Each mat is custom-fit to your car floors and has smooth little “cups” designed to trap in water, mud, snow, sand, etc. Rubber nib backing helps keep your mat in place and the texture provides a non-slippery surface. To clean, simply spray off with a hose and use a soft-bristle brush and a non-caustic chemical for those tougher spots. The RubberTite weather mats are available in 7 colors, including clear. These mats have a 5 year warranty and have the potential to last as long as your vehicle will.

Car mats are a small price to pay for saving your car’s interior. More information on RubberTite custom-fit weather mats along with a variety of other car floor mats can be found at http://matdepot.com/carmats.cfm

Polypropylene

Image

Polypropylene is a plastic polymer. It’s used in structural goods such as food containers and file holders, but it is also used as a fiber in diapers and mats. The Aquatread mat is an example of this. Polypropylene is highly absorbent which is beneficial for the rain, snow or any spills that may occur. The Aquatread mats are easy to clean and don’t succumb to the effects of bleach as a cleaning agent, meaning the mat won’t lose it’s color. Polypropylene in these mats also lasts about 5 years and is good for either indoor or outdoor use.
